KIU Titans endured a spine tingling end to the regular season to beat Kampala Rockets 64-61 at YMCA court on Saturday evening.
Despite it being a closely Contested game, the Titans began brightly and were 57-43 up by the end of the third quarter before a very poor fourth quarter.
They scored only seven points in the fourth quarter while Kampala Rockets scored 18 to bring the game to a tensional end as the Titans held on to survive a disastrous third defeat in a row.
The result brings relief back to the team especially after failing to win the previous two consecutive games.
Juf Mpiya posted a double double of 13 points and 11 rebounds while Edgar Munaba returned to where he belongs, scoring the game's highest,21 points but fell short on rebounds (4).
Captain Collins Kasujja, the only point guard available for the game was instrumental in the win. He scored nine points, five rebounds, six assists and four steals and was very solid in defense.
The Titans are second on the NBL-Men's table after the regular season and will wait for any team that finishes seventh for a matchup in the quarterfinals of the play-offs.
"It was a very poor game for us. You can't lead from the beginning and end up struggling to win a game on the line. It's simply not a good show for us.
"It's good that we have ended the regular season with a win but the way we won tonight means we are going back to the drawing board. There is a lot we have to address before the play-offs."
"The regular season has generally been good for us though not the very best because we are second. I want to credit my players and management for everything that has seen us this far. We hope to do even better in the playoffs.
"It's quite relieving that we have closed off the regular season with Victory. Today's win was a difficult one but we are happy with the final result."
"We had so many lapses especially in the fourth quarter and this brought the opponent back in the game but thanks, we fought hard and secured the win."
"The regular season has been good, we did our best though I still feel the very best is yet to come. Now that the regular season is over, we are going back to plan from zero for the play-offs because it marks the beginning of our season long goal."
The Titans end the regular season with an emphatic 17-5 record from 22 games.
