Dorcas Marondera is a Zimbabwean Basketball player who currently plays as a Power forward for KIU Rangers basketball club in the Ugandan Women's National Basketball League(WNBL). Born on 10th September 1990 in Zimbabwe, Marondera was initially a netballer before transitioning to Basketball aged 15 years old. She attended Girls High School Harare before joining Vaal University of Technology in South Africa. Before signing for KIU Rangers in June 2023, Marondera played for Cameo Basketball Club after a stint with,J.B.C,Stanbic Maverick’s (Zimbabwe). She has also played for Phoenix Flames(South Africa)UNZA Honeys ,Dolphins (Zambia),Ferroviaire De Maputo (Mozambique) and Makomeno Basketball Club in Democratic Republic Of Congo (D.R.C). It is due to her vast experience and pedigree in the game that KIU Rangers had to pursue her services with hope that she will help the team to compete favourably for the WNBL title. Like so many other African basketball players , Marondera's career began at School where she was initially known for netball not until the school's under 16 basketball team set to participate in the top schools Under 16 tournament ran short of players. She was invited to fill the gap by her friends whom she didn't disappoint. She surprisingly out rebounded everyone in the tournament. She is one of the most capped players on the Zimbabwe national team and was part of the squad that lit up the continent in the 2015 Afrobasket tournament where they lost in the finals to Senegal. This remains her greatest achievement in that she was also among the best 10 scorers at the tournament,(9/10) and 10/10 for steals. Marondera believes, Basketball is the greatest platform for connections, friendship and relationships. She admits that Basketball has taken her places she could have never imagined while teaching her a great deal of character. "Growing up an ophan toughed me up and Basketball molded me into a better person." Her main Career goal is to give back to Basketball just like it has done to her life. "I came from netball to become a national team player. Basketball groomed me to where I’m ,I have gone through all ranks in basketball,Scholarships,National caps ,coaching and even recruitment." "My goal is to eventually give back to basketball as it did for me .I have played at all levels, ,Afrobasket and all Africa games .So many young girls out there who have a journey ahead but don’t know where to start need my inspiration, I want to be able to tell my story and inspire a few so that they can know how Basketball can shape some one as a professional." Surprisingly, Marondera's role model, though a global sports icon, is not a basketball player She adores 36 year old Jamaican sprinter Shelly -Ann Fraser- Pryce simply because of her persistence and consistency. Pryce is still a competitive athlete despite being a mother of two. When she retires from basketball, Marondera wants to become a prominent business woman.
